A year in people #35 – 38 year old me

Happy birthday you. You’re 38 today. Do you feel 38? Yesterday you felt about 88. It’s because you’ve just spent a week eating mildly unhealthy food and drinking booze and then tried to run in the hills for 3 hours. At this age, you know what the effects of diet, alcohol and sleep do to you.

38 year old me doesn’t want to be 38 just yet. I don’t want to get any older. I loved being 31. Then I loved 35. So maybe actually 38 is the next age to love? We’ll find out over the next 365 days I guess.

But, 38 year old me, I do love you. These last 8 years haven’t been easy. You’ve had to make some really hard decisions. You’ve had tough times, given up a lot. Sometimes it paid off, sometimes it didn’t. You’ve done far more than you ever thought you would; achieved so much, things you once only dreamed of. You’re doing alright. I’m proud of you.

I made a choice to try to live each day being true to myself and full of things and people that are important to me. I may not always get it right, or live quite the conventional life, but I like that. I’m pretty happy.

You may have more wrinkles than last year, a few more grey hairs and you’ll never have a flat stomach, but that’s OK. I love you just the way you are.

I love running, writing, travel and adventure. I'll give anything a go once, and am always up for a laugh.

  1. Keep on going Tara – you are doing fantastic. Enjoying your life, being true to you values and not anyones victim. Who could ask for more? Just keep a balance between what you need to challenge your mind, what you need to challenge your body, what you need to feed your soul and what you need to fill your wallet. Big hugs from a 60 year old who is still finding the right balance of purpose and pleasure xxxx
